    Braemar’s Technical division offers a broad range of complementary adjusting, surveying, engineering, environmental and consultancy services to the marine, offshore, energy, shipping and insurance sectors. We are now looking for a Principal Surveyor to join our team in Hong Kong.

    The right candidate will carry out the general duties of inspection as required, as well as surveys and examinations of merchant vessels to assess, monitor and report on their condition as well as various warranty and casualty surveys on ocean going vessels, offshore vessels, barges, jack up rigs, other mobile offshore structures and port infrastructure.

    The successful candidate will have exciting opportunities to travel within our operational areas worldwide.  Given the fast-moving nature of our business, travel may be at very short notice over weekends, public holidays and nights.

    Applicants should have a proven career as a Senior Marine Engineer with a minimum qualification of a 1st Class Certificate of Competency, preferably with Chartered Engineer status or a Mechanical or Marine Engineering Bachelor’s Degree. Previous experience in insurance surveying and/or with LNG/LPG as well as post deep sea experience as a superintendent or Class surveyor is highly advantageous to your application.

    A positive, ‘can do’ attitude and team player mentality are essential. Professional and flexible, you must have outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal. You must also possess an excellent telephone manner and great attention to detail.

    This is an exciting opportunity for you to work alongside and learn from senior loss adjusting personnel in the energy, petrochemical, power and utilities, renewables, mining and heavy industry insurance market.

    The right candidate will assist in incident investigation, site attendance/surveys, document auditing, case management and administration, preparation of reports and presentations, and conducting insurance policy reviews.

    Although based in Houston and supporting the US files, you will also have the opportunity to assist our business in Latin America.

    To be successful in this role, you will have a desire to develop professionally and will be supported to undertake relevant insurance qualifications and other training with the aim of acquiring the necessary skills to progress to a Senior Adjuster level.

    The successful candidate will be focused with outstanding attention to detail, able to work independently as well as part of a close team. You will actively seek new knowledge related to engineering practices, principles and regulations. You should be able to apply engineering principles and concepts to projects to solve problems.

    This position requires between 0-5 years’ experience in oil and gas and/or petrochemical and/or renewables and/or power generation and/or heavy industry. A knowledge of insurance is beneficial but not essential. Spanish proficiency would be highly advantageous to your application.

    Candidates are expected to have a bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Process Engineering.

  • Current 'The Americas' vacancies - Senior Civil Engineer

    Senior Civil Engineer

    Braemar’s Technical division has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Civil Engineer to join its team in Houston, TX to support a wide variety of LNG projects, typically as an Owner’s Engineer.

    Acting as a primary technical expert for all matters related to Civil Engineering, you will interface with clients in technical project meetings, as well as representing the client’s best interests to outside service providers. The role will use Civil Engineering as the foundation, but the candidate must be flexible and eager to work and learn in other areas of project engineering for multiple role projects.

    Using your expertise within this diversified and challenging role, you will define the scope of work, prepare estimates and schedules for the civil engineering portion of work in a project, whilst developing and directing discipline monitoring with the Engineering Project Manager (e.g. project budget, schedules, and change management requirements etc.). You will also prepare, monitor, and update project plans, schedules, and budgets (including staffing needs) for project management and department management.

    You will be responsible and accountable for reviewing, monitoring and ensuring compliance requirements are met for design, as well as establishing the requirements of the Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) contract, customer Requests for Proposals (RFPs), professional service agreements, or other contractual requirements ensuring projects meet or exceed project goals.

    You will work on large size or multiple small size engineering projects with minimum supervision and act as a mentor for colleagues and a Lead for the coordination effort with internal and external partners, and the technical development of calculations, plans/drawings, and specifications.

    The successful candidate will be focused with outstanding attention to detail. With exceptional analytical and problem solving skills, you will recognize the value of precision as much as productivity.

    This position requires a minimum of 10-20 years’ relevant hands-on experience in Civil Engineering.  Previous LNG project experience is strongly desirable. You must have strong technical background in general site civil design, foundations, drainage systems, and grading.

    Candidates are expected to have a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year university and must be a Licensed Professional Engineer with NCEES record have a familiarity with the latest national and design codes and be able to apply engineering principles and concepts to projects to solve problems.
